Equinely Spooky Jack-O'-Lanterns! - Carving ideas for the whole herd

Posted by Lynnsy Diekman - Saddle Up on Oct 27th 2021

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. There are so many activities to do and it's a fun time to add your own unique, personal flare. It is the best holiday to carve out some good times!

Pumpkin carving is almost like a Halloween tradition and you can get kind of crazy with it. There are simple designs, intricate designs, and many different themes you can choose! There are even designs for us horse crazy folks. The best thing about this activity is it can be fun for all ages and you can truly decorate your pumpkin however you desire.

You don't have to be insanely artistic to partake in the fun. The world wide web offers a variety of stencils you can download and many "how to" videos that walk you through each step. Pinterest is the best place to get ideas and find the tools you need to make it come to life. I did a search for "Top Horse Pumpkin Carving Ideas" and I picked 10 of my favorite to hopefully inspire your design! All of these were found on Pinterest, but don't be afraid to make it your own!

1. Painted Pumpkin

When it comes to pumpkins, you don't even have to carve them! This is a great example of painting a design on one instead. It is still a challenge, but very unique and less messy.

2. Cowboy Kneeling at the Cross

This has always been one of my favorite images and it looks so cool on this pumpkin! This one would be a harder one for sure, but trying something new is all part of the fun.

3. Detailed Paint Horse

This is a more detailed horse, but I think it is so cool how they incorporated the paint markings with the light inside. It turned out beautiful!

4. Bucking Horse Silhouette

If you are going for more of a western, punchy look, try doing the bucking horse silhouette! This looks pretty sharp with the light leaking through behind the cowboy and horse. They do offer multiple stencils of this image.

5. Mythical Pumpkin

Halloween is all about imagination and this little unicorn is pretty darn adorable! There were multiple unicorn designs, but this was my favorite. It is perfect for a little cowgirl!

6. Decorated Pumpkin

This is such a great idea and I personally love designs like this. I'm not the artsy type, so carving pumpkins always stresses me out, but this is something anyone can do! Go to your local craft store and load up on materials! It looks like for this you would need some yarn, felt material, glue, and buttons. You can't beat that!

7. Carousel Pumpkin

Alright, this one is definitely for you crafty people. It is insanely cool, but would be a challenge. It just shows how creative you can get with pumpkin carving! You can always tone it down a bit and do a carousel design, or don't be afraid to try it!

8. Simple Horse Silhouette

This horse design is simple, yet elegant! It looks so cool with the light shining through. I actually love the light horse outline with this design. It gives it a whimsical look.

9. Breakaway Roper Pumpkin

This is super cool and very unique. If you are a breakaway roper, this is the one for you! Do you ride a different discipline? Change it up! You can carve a hunter jumper, barrel racer, bull rider, or whatever discipline you want! Make it special and unique to you, that's what it's all about.

10. Horse & Horse Shoe Pumpkin

This is a great in-between design for anyone to try! It's still detailed, but easier to accomplish and it looks really cool! You can choose any horse to be in the middle or change up the horse shoe too. This is the perfect design for any horse lover.

We hope this inspires you to create a fabulous pumpkin! If you do try any of these designs or if you create one yourself, we would love to see it! Feel free to send it to us on Facebook and we will feature it on our page. Remember, you can do anything you can imagine and don't forget to have fun!
