A Horse's Christmas List

Posted by Lynnsy Diekman - Saddle Up on Dec 21st 2022

Do you get your four legged family Christmas presents? During the holidays, many people include their four legged family when shopping. They are a huge part of our lives and it can be fun to spoil them. You don't have to go crazy and buy them a new, heated barn, but there are many options for fun Christmas treats.

1. Horse Treats

Treats or goodies are always a win when it comes to a gift. You can surprise your trusty steed with carrots, cookies, or even a horse friendly cake!

2. New Tack or Grooming Items

This would be a win, win for you and your horse! Have you been needing a new curry comb? Or maybe you want to change up your style a bit? Get a gift you both can enjoy! Get a brush for the stocking and a new breast collar for under the tree :)

3. Horse Toys

Does your horse enjoy playing with toys? There are so many options that they will love! Jolly balls are a fan favorite and I know my horses are obsessed with them.

4. Salt Lick

A salt lick or lick tub is also a fine option. You can spice things up with molasses  or keep it simple with a salt block.

5. Body Work

I know I would enjoy a massage and I bet your horse would too! You can treat them to a horse spa day! Schedule them for a massage or even acupuncture, they will be forever grateful.

6. Turnout Time

If you have access to a pasture or fenced area, let your horse stretch their legs! The small things are much appreciated and I bet they would love to kick up their heels for Christmas.

7. Quality Time

You don't have to buy your horse something to make them feel special during the holidays. Honestly, just spending time with them will make them feel so special. Take them for a ride or even just brush them. The most important thing is your love and one of the best gifts you can give.

8. Shavings

Winter and mud can be very harsh elements for horses. To provide  a soft, dry place, a bag of shavings would be perfect under the tree! Choose from many styles/types and pamper your horse for the holidays!

The Saddle Up Crew wishes you and your family (4 legged ones included) a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
