According to ranchers, ropers, and others that prefer this style of breast collar, pulling breast collars allow the horse more freedom of shoulder movement and better leverage when pulling.

Wither Straps help hold the breast collar in the right position. Sometimes the breast collar might fall down or slide to the wrong position as the day goes on. The wither strap helps by lifting the breast collar and holding it into place by laying across the top of the neck and hooking to each side of the breast collar.
