Winter Ideas

Posted by Saddle Up on Dec 14th 2016

Winter is here and it’s either too snowy, too cold, or too muddy to do much riding, training, or general horse activities. What can you do during these winter weeks?

Now is a great time to pull out all those horse books and training videos you’ve been meaning to watch. You can catch up on all the horse blogs you’ve subscribed to as well as podcasts. You may not be able to train your horse or your body for a couple of weeks, but you can be training your mind and coming up with ideas of what you want to do once the weather turns warmer.

Don’t have a list of books, videos, blogs, or podcasts? Now is the time to explore! There are many wonderful and helpful books out there by well-known trainers and hidden gems. Start with a topic that interests you and go from there. Remember, each trainer will have a slightly different philosophy/style so it’s okay if you don’t like the first one you read. Find a trainer/author that you really click with and see what other books he/she has written.

There are also great instructional videos that give you visual how-to’s. These are great to sit down and watch on a cold, snowy day, bundled on the couch with a steaming cup of tea or cocoa.

You can also look up blogs and podcasts that provide great information and tips about all kinds of horse related topics.

Don’t let the winter weeks drag you down! Keep your mind active so you’re mentally ready to get back in the saddle when the time comes!
