Take a Break

Posted by Saddle Up on Apr 19th 2017

We live in a very fast paced world where the pressure and expectation is to keeping doing and going constantly with no rest and no breaks. This has leaked into our horse lives too.

Maybe this doesn’t apply to you and maybe it does. If it doesn’t, disregard it. If it does, may it give you a sense of peace.

It’s okay to take a break from riding and training. And you don’t have to feel guilty about it. Your horse will be fine and will probably enjoy the respite himself.

It’s okay to take time for you. We love our horses dearly, but we can’t take care of them to the best of our ability if we aren’t taking good care of ourselves.

On days when the weather is bad, windy, rainy or snowy, it’s okay to take advantage of that day and get other stuff done or take the day and pamper yourself.

Or take a break with your horse! Maybe instead of riding/training, go for a leisurely walk with your horse or sit and read while he eats. Spending time together like that strengthens the bond you have.

Your horse depends on you, so make sure you are taking good care of yourself so you can give your best to your horse.
