Level 3 Bits

Level 3 bits are designed for horses that are mature, advanced in training, or is a finished horse and is a reward for all the horse's hard work: They are the least restrictive, use the least amount of pressure, and have the greatest amount of tongue relief.

A horse must be ready for a Level 3 bit, meaning he must be confident, reliable, and solid. When you give the horse more tongue relief you lose a pressure point. Disposition on the horse and his level of training is very vital to determining whether or not he is ready for a level 3 bit.
Level 3 bits all have ports which release the tongue. A wider port will not place pressure on the tongue. A narrower bit has the potential to make contact with the tongue. Level 3 bits apply pressure on the bars of the horse and mainly work off of that.
