Honor Your Horse

Posted by Saddle Up on Jul 13th 2016

Horses, just like humans, have likes and dislikes as far as what they do for a job or for fun. This may not surprise you or this may be something you've never heard or thought of before. Horses don't have cookie cutter personalities that are programmed to do whatever you want them to do as far as discipline. Horses should be given a chance to let you know what they like and don't like. It's a way to honor them.

Some horses love to jump. Others don't. Some horses prefer just doing weekend trail rides while others need something more challenging and exciting. It is our job as their human partners and caretakers to respect them enough to let them do what they love to do, as best as we can.

Find what your horse loves to do and then let them do it. This is how champions are made. If the horse's heart is 100% into his job, amazing things happen.

A great horseman can hear his horse whisper. A good horseman can hear his horse talk. A bad horseman can’t even hear his horse scream.” –Anonymous                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           ~ Saddle Up
