Front Cinch Materials

There are several different materials being used to make cinches these days. Here is a short list of the most popular materials used and a brief description of each to help you pick out the best for your horse!
Mohair: Mohair is the hair of the Angora goat. This type of cinch is very traditional. It is also very breathable and dries fairly fast. It is harder to clean, needing to be washed by hand using mild soap and water. Some less expensive cinches are a blend of mohair and either nylon or wool.
Neoprene: Neoprene is a man-made material and has more grip to it. It is easy to clean, which is a benefit. However some horses can have a physical allergic reaction to neoprene. At times it can become too hot for sensitive horses unless it has built-in breathable holes.
Felt: Felt used for cinches is softer and more absorbent then regular felt. They are inexpensive and usually work quite well.
Some other materials often used in cinches are fleece, cotton, and rayon.
