Find the Right Cinch Length for Your Horse
Posted by Saddle Up on Oct 2nd 2015
How do you size your horse for a cinch? Especially if you're a new horse owner, this can be an elusive answer. Here's a simple trick to find a good cinch length for your horse.
Place your saddle on your horse and put your hand beneath the saddle rigging where you will attach the cinch. Place your other hand below the first hand. Take a piece of string and put one end about where your second wrist ends up. Keep one string end there and draw the rest of it underneath the horse and repeat the same step on the other side then cut the string. Measure the string and that should give you a good estimate of cinch size.
Bear in mind this will depend on where the rigging on your saddle is. If the rigging is higher up, you're going to need a longer cinch and if it's set lower you'll probably want a shorter cinch.
