Did You Know This About Stirrups?

Posted by Saddle Up on Jan 24th 2018

Did you know that stirrups weren’t invented until several centuries after the saddle? And before the treed saddle, people rode bareback or with a treeless saddle! They must have been pretty good riders!

When stirrups were invented the affect that had on civilization was huge, especially in regard to warfare. With the invention of stirrups, combat on horseback became easier and more effective.

Some scholars (especially military historians) believe the invention of the stirrup was one of the most important inventions, even placing it up there with the wheel, gunpowder, and sliced bread.

These days we all take our stirrups for granted… that is until our trainer takes them away to improve our balance!
